UCPB Savings Bank Supports Benguet State University’s Dialogue on Decent Work and Economic Growth

February 2, 2026

BENGUET, PHILIPPINES, January 14, 2026, Benguet State University (BSU) marked its 40th Charter Anniversary with a meaningful celebration anchored on the theme “Shaping Minds, Transforming Communities, and Sustaining Futures.” A key highlight of the event was the multi-disciplinary critical dialogue titled “Ba’díw ya Binnadang: A Dialogue for Unity,” which gathered students, faculty members, and institutional partners to engage in discussions on issues shaping today’s society and the future workforce.

In support of the University’s initiative, UCPB Savings Bank participated in the event by sending Mr. Gerson Malonzo, Regional Lending Officer for Luzon 1, as its representative and guest speaker. The activity also served as a support initiative for Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8): Decent Work and Economic Growth, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development.

During his opening statement, Mr. Malonzo emphasized that Decent Work and Economic Growth is often misunderstood. While commonly associated with employment, salaries, or large businesses, he highlighted that the concept is fundamentally about opportunity, who has access to it, and who is left behind. Decent work, he noted, goes beyond having a job; it means work that provides dignity, learning opportunities, and the chance for long-term growth.

This message resonated strongly with the students of BSU, many of whom will soon enter the workforce as employees, entrepreneurs, or future leaders. The dialogue encouraged students to reflect not only on securing employment but on seeking meaningful and ethical work environments that allow them to develop their skills, sustain their livelihoods, and contribute positively to their communities.

The discussion reinforced the vital role of education in shaping individuals who can transform communities and sustain future generations. By fostering conversations on economic inclusion, social responsibility, and unity, BSU continues to prepare students to face real-world challenges with awareness and purpose.

UCPB Savings Bank is grateful to Benguet State University for the warm welcome and the opportunity to take part in this meaningful exchange. Through continued collaboration with academic institutions, the Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that empower the youth, promote decent work, and contribute to inclusive economic growth.
